Herbs and Leafy Greens For Greenhouse

In early 2017, Growspec and Inhort started to research and develop a special product - light series for particular types of herbs in indoor growing areas. Target is factory scale herb growing areas and amateur home cultivations. Our team already finished engineering and testing four light spectrums, for four types of common used herbs. All the scientific conclusions will be shown during XXX International Horticultural Congress In Istanbul, August 2018 by Phd Bożena Matysiak. The knowledge we have discovered as part of our research and development cooperation is already in use. Product lines based on Inhort research conclusions are already in production.
Herbs were tested on the basis of oregano, basil, purple basil and coriander stands. The tests were carried out in a greenhouse (5 x 4 m) with automatic climate control. Herbs were grown on 4 floodplain tables (1.2 x 2 m), on which prototype LED lamps, developed by our team, were hung. We illuminated the plants with Slim-Spec Germination, Slim-Spec Leafy, Slim-Spec Strawberry and Slim-Spec Flowering LED lamps for 12 hours a day at a light intensity of 200 µmol/m2s PAR.
The temperature during plant cultivation was 20˚C per day and 18˚C per night. The plants were fed twice a week starting from the third week of cultivation with Hydrovit fertilizer solution with the following composition: N-NO3 220, P 45, K 265, Ca 132, Mg 49 (in mg/l) + microelements. Initially, the solution was applied at a concentration of 0.5% (2 weeks), then 1.0% (3 weeks), and in the last phase, until the end of the growing period, the solution at a concentration of 1.5%.
The obtained results were processed statistically with the use of programme - STATISTICA v. 13.1 (StatSoft, Toulsa, USA).
An analysis of ANOVA variance was performed, and to assess the significance of differences between the averages HDS Tukey test was used, at p<0.05.
All tested LED lamps turned out to be perfect for the illumination of herbs cultivated in autumn and winter, when the cultivation of herbs outside in Poland is not possible due to unfavorable climatic conditions. We showed a 29% increase in the weight of the above-ground part, with a 40% increase in the leaf area. The increase in the length of the examined plants increased by 27%.

Leafy vegetables and propagation in green houses normally can grow healthy without artificial lighting. If growers aimed to boost the grow rate or coloring the leafs with special lighting solution, we would like to recommend the GR240 with angle (80°).
Each GR240 can cover approximately 80-100 sq ft over 7ft. Growers can mimic a full summer day all year round, which means increased production, deep color , hardier leaf and more compact head leafy veges can be expected from GrowSpec supplemental LED.
